Black Diamond Writers' Network

WHO ARE WE?

The Black Diamond Writers' Network (BDWN) is a group of people interested in writing.  Some want to publish; others don't.  BDWN members write for fun, family, themselves, entertainment, publication or a living – ranging from the wannabe to the published author.  Members interests include writing memoir, nonfiction, fiction, poetry, science fiction, screenwriting and many other genres.

The BDWN meets at the Tamaqua Area Public Library the 3rd Saturday of each month from 10:00 a.m until noon.

The objectives of the BDWN are to provide its members with a network of support and resources in the field of writing; to act as central information point for all activities in the field of writing and the publishing industry; and to advance the writing interests of its members.

Each month after a short business meeting, a spotlight speaker, a member who volunteers to read something he/she has recenlty written, gets feedback on their writing.  The meeting then offers a feature speaker and/or program that educates those present on a variety of different aspects in the craft of writing, the business of writing, publishing or other writing-related topics.

BDWN offers access to critique groups and occasional workshops

At present, critique groups are held at the library and open to the public:

  • 3:00 p.m. Tuesdays
  • 2:00 p.m. the first and third Saturdays

Member dues support BDWN’s free programs, operating expenses and hospitality.  The public is invited to participate in three meetings free of charge before joining.  Member benefits include monthly meetings, first notification and reduced rates for limited enrollment workshops and a monthly newsletter.

Annual dues:

  • $20 for adults
  • $10 for anyone under age 18
